Been meaning to ask this. I'm a remote worker and The median home value here is around $381,700, which seems about average. It's a a small town city with about 16,495 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Any advice would be great. Looking forward to hearing from you all. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I've lived in East for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The school system scene is average
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in tech. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Oak Park area are excellent. Kids love it here.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

Bought a house here in 2020 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
