Considering Steele Creek vs Houston -help me decide

I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Steele Creek sits at 492.2 per 100K. Household incomes average around $117,260 in Steele Creek. It's a a small town city with about 5,861 people. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Does this match your experience? Thanks in advance! It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 11 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 53, moved here 9 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in The Heights and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The job market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Seattle about 5 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to San Francisco it's excellent.
