Job hunting in Stillwater -tips?

Hey, I'm a 46-year-old graphic designer and Median household income is $109,297, which feels pretty solid for the area. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Stillwater sits at 42.6 per 100K. Average temperature is around 44--F, so bundle up in winter. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (West) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
