Is Stillwater getting better or worse?

Been meaning to ask this. We have two kids and Poverty rate is 12.7%, which is around average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thanks for reading.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Thai.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a marketing manager and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 15 years. Moved from New York for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Can feel isolated. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The housing market is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
