So, Just moved here 4 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Streamwood sits at 151.8 per 100K. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What neighborhoods would you suggest? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much pricey but now it's better than expected.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely pretty good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Fairview) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Chicago about 9 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, Hope this helps!.
