Relocating to Sudley, VA -pros and cons?
Longtime lurker here, Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've lived in South for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
- The nightlife scene is decent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Italian.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely decent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Raleigh it's surprisingly good.
