I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What are your go-to spots? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.

I've been in Sunset for 10 years. Moved from LA for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Can feel isolated. And school system can be frustrating.
