My family moved here when I was a kid. Poverty rate is 4.2%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Does this match your experience? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Used to live on the Springfield side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much affordable but now it's tough.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Midtown area are improving. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 1 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
