Swansea job market vs Raleigh

Hey folks, With a population of 14,603, Swansea is a small town. The median home value here is around $211,700, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $1,178 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 14,603 people. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I wrong here? Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Charlotte about 3 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 7 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely tough and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a nurse and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
