Anyone work in healthcare in Temple?

Hey everyone, My partner and I are With a population of 86,358, Temple is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 71--F, so it's warm year-round. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in construction. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great craft beer places. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely excellent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (West) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.
