Hi all, The median home value here is around $220,300, which is actually reasonable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Has anyone dealt with this? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much established but now it's hit or miss.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The dating scene is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Riverside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Hope this helps!.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 44, moved here 8 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Highland and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Can feel isolated
3. The safety situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for singles. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (The Heights) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
