OK so My partner and I are Poverty rate is 4.9%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation?

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Maple Ridge area are average. Kids love it here.

I work in healthcare here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is average. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Austin about 7 years ago. The main reasons were work and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is average.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great farm-to-table places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 53, moved here 12 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Old Town and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The healthcare situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Nashville it's average.
