Hey, I'm retired and Median household income is $113,844, which feels pretty solid for the area. The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I wrong here?

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Tampa about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Oak Park area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Boston it's surprisingly good.
