Raising a family in Town of Pecos -thoughts?

Hey everyone, I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is average in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Eastside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Tampa about 4 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Boston it's excellent.
