Hey, I work in real estate and Crime rate is something to consider -Troy sits at 571.3 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 0.8%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $134,500 on average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Let me know your thoughts. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Boston about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is tough.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a software engineer and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

Came here for school and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The housing market is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in construction here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is better than expected. Definitely worth checking out..
