Hey, The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Is this normal for Troy?

I've lived in Eastside for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- The nightlife scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great Italian places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Fairview for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The housing market scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a contractor and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 46, moved here 15 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Westside and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited shopping options
3. The weather situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Hope this helps!.
