Honest thoughts on life in University of California-Santa Barbara
Anyone else feel this way? Just moved here 5 months ago and The median home value here is around $452,600, which is pretty steep. Median household income is $75,000, which feels about average for the area. Rent is about $1,512/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely pretty good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Old Town) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 15 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Affordable housing options
- The weather scene is solid
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Old Town area are decent. Kids love it here.
