First time home buyer in University Park

Hey, Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Let me know your thoughts. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to San Diego it's excellent.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 6 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
