Random thought, With a population of 2,623, Varnell is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Varnell sits at 232.3 per 100K. Homes are going for about $228,200 on average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Should I be concerned? Thanks! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Downtown for 3 years. Moved from San Diego for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Dating scene is rough. And school system can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
