Been meaning to ask this. Just moved here 13 months ago and It's a a small town city with about 14,499 people. Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $119,148, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Verona sits at 133.2 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 5 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in South for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- The pet-friendliness scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'm a pharmacist and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is tough and there's always something going on.
