Job market in Wailea for tech?

Curious what people think. I'm single, late 20s, and It's a a small town city with about 6,571 people. Poverty rate is 13.5%, which is around average. Homes are going for about $1,363,700 on average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Worth the trade-offs? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is excellent in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 49, moved here 7 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Eastside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Property taxes are high
3. The traffic situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in retail. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Highland for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- The public transit scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The traffic scene is solid

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..
