Is Washington getting better or worse?

Random thought, Median household income is $91,360, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $216,700, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $1,087/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Anyone in a similar situation? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely improving and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in West for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good airport with direct flights
- The dating scene scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..
