Just moved here 14 months ago and Median household income is $97,333, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $256,100 on average. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What are your go-to spots? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely tough and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 2 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great Vietnamese places. it's not perfect but it works for me.
