Homes are going for about $591,800 on average. Median household income is $86,692, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $2,250/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for retirement and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely better than expected and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (West) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a software engineer and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
