Hey, I grew up here but left for a while. You can expect to pay around $2,250 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely challenging and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

I work in engineering here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- The community vibe scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.
