I'm retired and Poverty rate is 0.9%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Worth the trade-offs? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

I've lived in Downtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- The pet-friendliness scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
