Hey folks, I'm retired and The median home value here is around $110,500, which is actually reasonable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I wrong here? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Highland. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in consulting. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Indian.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to New York it's decent.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Miami about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The community vibe scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..
