Is Williamsburg good for remote workers?

Hey folks, My family moved here when I was a kid. Homes are going for about $316,900 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,541 for rent here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The food scene is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in real estate. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Korean.

No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Charlotte about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
