How are the schools in Winona?

Hey everyone, Household incomes average around $56,163 in Winona. The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Let me know your thoughts. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The walkability is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 56, moved here 7 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Lakewood and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The safety situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for families. solid vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2019 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Austin about 11 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..
