Just moved to Wisconsin Rapids, any tips?

First post here. Been living here since 2010. The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. Median household income is $54,116, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's a a small town city with about 18,756 people. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. TIA! Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Fairview) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
