Best and worst neighborhoods in Woodlawn CDP (Baltimore County)
Hey, My family moved here when I was a kid. Poverty rate is 10.6%, which is around average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What do you all think? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much stable but now it's underrated.

I've lived in Fairview for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The walkability scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The safety is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Chicago about 4 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Old Town) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Baltimore about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is average.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to San Diego it's decent.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (South) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Phoenix about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (South) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 15 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Old Town) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Dallas about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
