Thinking about relocating to Woodlawn CDP (Baltimore County) from Kansas City

We're a young couple and You can expect to pay around $1,440 for rent here. Homes are going for about $269,800 on average. The median home value here is around $269,800, which seems about average. Rent is about $1,440/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Does this match your experience? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely solid and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much growing but now it's underrated.

Used to live on the Lakewood side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 26, moved here 9 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Greenfield and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Can feel isolated
3. The walkability situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in tech here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 2 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into running, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
