Hi all, The unemployment rate is 0.6%, which is pretty low. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to LA it's underrated.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 12 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I work in engineering here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is challenging. No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

I've been here 4 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Downtown for 12 years. Moved from San Diego for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Road conditions need improvement. And traffic can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
