Longtime lurker here, With a population of 5,649, Yoakum is a small town. The unemployment rate is 0.6%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Any help is appreciated. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Baltimore about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..
