Affordable areas near Buffalo?

Hey, I relocated for work and With a population of 16,388, Buffalo is a small town. Household incomes average around $88,306 in Buffalo. Homes are going for about $281,900 on average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What are your go-to spots? TIA! Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 32, moved here 11 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Uptown and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The dating scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
