Hey, Rent is about $2,064/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 73--F, so it's warm year-round. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Appreciate any input. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Moved here from New York about 1 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to community vibe but Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 8 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 57, moved here 11 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Riverside and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Property taxes are high
3. The nightlife situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in retail here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is better than expected. No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.
