With a population of 11,856, Mountain Top is a small town. Median household income is $105,286, which feels pretty solid for the area. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely average and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Riverside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The healthcare scene is tough
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 13 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you value job market, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely challenging and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (West) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
