Couple moving to Osprey from out of state

Anyone else feel this way? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Houston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 35, moved here 3 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Eastside and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Diverse dining options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Property taxes are high
3. The walkability situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much wild but now it's underrated.

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Phoenix it's challenging.
