Housing in Somerset compared to Houston

Military spouse here. You can expect to pay around $830 for rent here. Poverty rate is 26.5%, which is higher than I expected. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Thoughts? Thanks for reading.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 13 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much developing but now it's improving.
