Is South Lebanon still affordable?

We're a young couple and Crime rate is something to consider -South Lebanon sits at 87.6 per 100K. Rent is about $1,086/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What do you all think?
